Blackheads Treatment - How to get rid of Blackheads?

How are Blackheads Caused?

Blackheads are caused by over active sebaceous glands (the oil producing glands of the skin). The secretion of oil expands and thickens the pores of the skin. The oil collects in the pores and hardens in the pores. The pores are then clogged with hardened sebum or oil. Since the pores are open, the tip of the clogged grease is exposed to the air and oxidises, turning black. Hence, blackheads are formed. Oily and combination skins are most susceptible to these. The skin's most dense oil glands are located in T-zone. That is why there you get most of the blackheads.

Q: Recently, I have noticed some blackheads on the nose. I have been using a face pack of honey and curd twice a week. Could it be due to this?

You must avoid the face pack that you are currently using because curd may be causing greasiness. The tiny skin pores on your nose are clogged with dirt and grime. They need a through cleansing treatment. Get the blackheads removed by an expert and do not attemp it yourself. Wash your face atleast thrice a day with a medicated soap or with a face wash. Steam the face for 5 times every week and do not steam for more than 10 minutes at a time. Just after steaming splash the face with cold water to open the pores. Tone it with a good skin toner. Following this routine will help you to get rid of blackheads.

Treatment of Blackheads aswell as Whiteheads

  • Mix 1-teaspoon honey with 1/2 teaspoon rice powder and rub all over the face, especially on the chin and nose. This helps in removing blackheads aswell as whiteheads.
  • To get rid of blackheads, cover the area with a mixture of green gramflour, curd and tumeric powder. Leave it for 10 minutes. Scrub off, using cold water.
  • In thick bottomed pan, heat a mixture of egg white and lemon juice till it becomes thick. Cool, smear this mixture over the face to get rid of blackheads permanently.
  • Eat a well-balanced diet.
  • Apply a good quality medicated cream or gel containing resorcinol, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.
  • Avoid oil-based cosmetics, which can increase the blockage of pores. Use water-based cosmetics and wash your face thoroughly each evening.
