Shampooing is essential to everyone's hair care routine, regardless of hair type or texture. You should shampoo as often as necessary to keep your hair looking clean and your scalp comfortable. This may range from shampooing daily to shampooing only once a week, depending on how oily your hair is, the level of physical exercise you indulge in, the environment, your hairstyle and any scalp problems.
It is essential to protect hair from the damaging, drying effects of the sun. If you swim, be sure to promptly shampoo your hair remove chlorine and other chemicals, or salt water, all of which may result in drying.
Those who have oily hair, exercise daily, or live or work in dirty environments may need to shampoo daily, while others need to shampoo less frequently. Twice a week is usually sufficient if your work does not involve any physical activity. When hair begins to look dull limp or lusterless, or when the scalp begins to itch, it's time to shampoo.

If you have greasy hair, you will need to wash them frequently say twice or thrice a week. This is especially necessary, if the environment you work in is dirty. If your work does not involve much sedentary work then it is enough if you wash your hair once a week. If you have dry hair, you can shampoo them once a fortnight.
Frequent shampooing is not harmful for the hair not does it cause any hair loss. However, daily shampooing of very dry hair and overzealous manipulation (excessive brushing, rubbing, etc.) cause hair breakage which may be mistaken for hair loss.

Before shampooing your hair, do a hair massage with oil for ten to fifteen minutes. Do not wash your hairs immediately after massaging because massage stimulates the blood vessels, increases blood circulation and warms up the area. So, better wait for a hour or two. For two much dry hair, massage with warm olive oil is beneficial.
Do not use large quantity of shampoo in one go. It will just go waste. Wet your hair, take a spoonful on your left palm and rub well allover the scalp with right hand fingers. Let it soak into the skin, produce foam and then wash off with water. Apply it again if there is need similarly and wash off. Now wash your head well with plenty of water.
Water temperature should start at warm and taper off to cool or cold, if you can stand it. Cold water seems to close pores and bring a shine to hair.
After shampooing, don't rub your hair vigorously with towel. Rubbing your hair vigorously may result in hair breakage. Pat it dry gently and wrap your hair in a towel.
Comb wet hair with a wide-toothed, smooth-edged comb with blunt tips (no sharp teeth). Never brush wet hair; it's too elastic and may snap with pulling. Work out tangles by combing gently, starting from the ends and working towards the scalp.

Always wash your hair immediately after swimming in salt or chlorinated water. If you can't shampoo, rinse with soda water. In case, you have only little grey hair, apply henna and avoid use of chemical hair dyes as far as possible.
